What do others say about my dramas?

Worldview series

What is it?  A series of 3 to 5 minute mini-dramas  (totaling around 75 ), centered around “family devotions” in a Christian home and the corresponding interaction of parents with their children,  focusing  on issues found in the African worldview that are contrary to the biblical worldview (Based on the book, “A letter to Africa about Africa”).

What is its goal-  Due to the fact that many of these non-biblical practices have found their way into the Church in Africa (often described as syncretism!), and since TWR has the ‘ear’ of much of the Church through its programming in Africa,  we want to combat these issues, within the church, which we believe will result in a stronger  witness for the Gospel and the Kingdom, throughout the Continent.

Example-  One program features the amulet (wristband) which is worn by many Africans to give protection against evil spirits.  A script was written with the Father of the household interacting with the Mother and children, inquiring about the purpose of the amulet.  When the children told their father that it was for their protection, he says, “oh that is interesting, but the Bible says that God is our protector” (sharing some verses to support the premise).  The children are then reminded of the fact that some of their friends who had amulets had also experienced serious accidents.   A couple more verses are shared on the subject and the short program is concluded with the powerful finality of the Word of God.

I have worked with Rachel Gabler for 15 years in Christian Education.  Seven years ago she brought the first of the dramas she was writing to the Christian Education Seminar she was teaching. These dramas have been challenging to me personally and to the church.  They are a wonderful teaching tool.
