This week's drama is Sickness and Healers. One misconception people have of African culture is that all healers and all "healing" is with witch doctors who consult ancestors and spirits and do "magic". There is actually a lot of herbal knowledge that has been available locally for centuries. Western medicine is only now beginning to study this and hopefully will be humble enough to learn.
Witch doctors and Marebou also use herbs in their practice. They also believe they have supernatural powers that come from the ancestors and from various spirits. Because this is so clearly forbidden in Scripture, African Christians have gone to Western medicine where available. This drama was written to challenge the thinking that this is the only solution--or even the best.
Again! I only have this recording in French. English anyone?
