HOMOSEXUALITY--Part 1

At first I thought I might postpone this drama until later. I am going through the dramas in the order I wrote them. This topic was next. (It is in three parts.) It is a hot topic, for sure. And the timing makes it hotter.

The obvious topic is homosexuality. What I wanted to deal with was the attitude of Africans toward this issue. I started with what I believe is their main hang up with homosexuality. It is so powerful that it overwhelms all others. And it has nothing to do with what the Bible says about homosexuality.

The preoccupation is that some “people” are not human. Homosexuals fall into this category and to be not-human is to be unhuman. That is dangerous and scary. It ranks right along with sorcery. There seem to be two reasons why a homosexual cannot be human.

First of all, they are “different” and not “normal”. This is suspicious. Different is so suspect, for example, that when a baby’s teeth don’t come in in the “normal” order (bottom ones first) the baby is cursed. Some tribes even kill these babies.

Secondly, they cannot have children of their own. To become human—fully human—one must reproduce. That is the reason why adoption (even for heterosexual couples) is not an option. And it is also why infertility in Africa is a huge tragedy.

There are other aspects to this discussion, but I will deal with them in Parts 2 and 3. This one says, “Homosexuals are human.” And that point is critical to this issue. If that is not agreed upon, there is nothing else to talk about.
