This drama, "WHAT HAPPENS AFTER WE DIE" is about the fear of death but more specifically, fear of the dead. Fear of death is common around the world. So is fear of the dead, but it is especially powerful in Africa. It is so sad. Because of the belief that the dead can affect your life and control it, they have to be treated properly, or else the dead will hurt them. In Western culture people often talk of sensing that their loved ones are “with them” after death—guiding, helping and protecting. In Africa the “with them” is there, but not in a positive way. It is manipulative, controlling, fearful and destructive.

I know there must be some African cultures that do not have such a negative belief, but I have not come across one, either in my personal experience or in my research.

This drama is actually Kasongo Munza’s testimony. After writing, it I had it approved by his widow. He shares some of his testimony in his book, “A Letter to Africa About Africa”. I had heard it both in his speaking and while working with him to lay out his book. His children do not fear him even though he has died.
