The sense of community and value of helping each other is one that is being lost everywhere, including in Africa. It is why I wrote this drama. The differences between village life and city life is one evidence of this.

Another sign of this loss is hinted at when Mother says she needs to have John and Hannah stay behind to watch the house, as well as informing the grandparents. Even in village life people do not leave their houses vacant, even for a short while. I used to wonder why I never saw whole families attend church or other functions. Then it was explained that no one's house was safe from thieves and someone always had to stay behind.

Peter's hypocricy, where he says the verses about caring for others must be written for the city people since the village does better, is typical of many Christians around the world. They compare themselves to those who are worse than they are (they think), and figure they themselves must be fine. Christ wipes that attitude right out with the standard he sets.
