TABOOS

This drama is based on a real situation that Kasongo Munza faced. I heard him tell about it many times in discussions with groups about various taboos. His mother-in-law struggled with this taboo and yet they had to have her in their home to take care of her. In writing this, I got the permission of his widow and had her approve it before distributing it to anyone else.
This taboo sounds ridiculous to Westerners but it still is believed today. I have had others share the lengths they have had to go to in order to avoid seeing their mother-in-law. A son-in-law who meets his mother-in-law on a path is supposed to step off the path far enough away to not be able to see her, kneel down and wait until she passes.
This drama gives the basis of what Kasongo taught about taboos. They must be examined for the reason behind them. Then logic must be applied. Kasongo was able to do this with his mother-in-law and she adjusted. It is possible.
