FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION

This topic is very serious. It was tricky to write about because it is so graphic and the program is supposed to be a family program with presumably children able to listen to it. I pray I was able to strike a balance.
The practice of FGM or female circumcision is very prevalent in Northern and Western Africa. Recent statistics say that 90% of girls are circumcised. This often causes serious problems for the girls as they reach puberty, if they survive it. It is rarely done by a doctor or under sterile conditions. There are no health benefits to the girls.
It is universally condemned by the international community. However, the groups that practice it have not changed their traditions. The thinking has not changed. Without the grace of God, it will not change. For more information about Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) see the link http://www.endfgm.eu/en/female-genital-mutilation/what-is-fgm/why-is-it-practised/
I was making the French recordings available to a radio station in Lubumbashi. I assumed that this was not a practice in that part of DRC, and that they probably would not use the drama. The director of the station said, "No, we will play the drama. It is practiced in secret here."
I have this in French for your listening pleasure.
