SEXUAL ABUSE PART 3 (COMMUNITY)

This segment was the most difficult of the four parts to write. The struggle was that in actuality there is no justice in Africa for victims of rape. It was heart breaking to learn this. For me as an author it had become personal. I had begun feeling that these people were real and their dangers were mine. How could I keep Naomi safe?
It was an eye opener to me when a group attending a seminar asked if they could perform the dramas on sexual abuse as part of the seminar, which was on the topic. As expected, they changed things—as actors always do. BUT they completely redid the third part. They had the community dragging the teacher off to the police and the police throwing him in prison and everyone rejoiced in justice being done.
At first I was angry that they could do that to the drama. Then I was broken hearted when I realized that this was what they WISHED would happen. No one had to explain that it doesn’t happen that way. We were able to talk about it.
I do not have any recordings of this drama.
