MARRIAGE--POLYGAMY

This drama is controversial because various denominations in Africa have different rules on this. Some insist that a man who has more than one wife must divorce all but one. Others have no policy on this. Still others even teach that the more spiritual a man is the more wives he should have!

Personally, I think requiring a man to divorce extra wives is a carryover from past missionaries coming with their cultural baggage and not looking at what the Bible actually says about polygamy.

But if a church has strong convictions about this, they should do all they can to make sure that the divorced wives are taken care of. Otherwise those women's lives are going to be terrible and that can only be a blight on the testimony of the church. What is those divorced women's role in the church? Christ does not reject them. Does the church?
