The concluding drama on this topic puts a different twist to the argument that it is selfish to limit the number of children a couple has. I introduce the question: Isn't it selfish to expect to have a large reward and inheritance that the Bible says children are.? How can we assume we are worthy? Isn't that arrogance?
The expectation I have seen in Africa is that others should take responsibility for the children. The food, clothing, medical care and schooling are not up to the parents. As a foreigner in Africa, I could not begin to count the number of times I am asked to help out. It becomes numbing after a while. And a lot of abuse happens when children are farmed out by poor families to relatives or friends or acquaintances. This idea someone else will/should take care of my children is pervasive.
