There can be negative consequences for doing the right thing. Christians have to be aware of this. We are not promised everything will work out great. In this drama Mother goes through this. The family is thankful that it wasn’t worse. And they will continue to trust God. Then God provides in an unexpected way.
Mother’s strategy to bring her mother to the feared confrontation was an African solution. The respect for the elderly in Africa is a strength. It is also something God says He will bless, and Mother knows she can use this value. It has become a currency for her.
The scene where the market ladies stood in a line with arms crossed to block Mother and Grandmother is one I have seen pictures of and heard described.
The funeral customs mentioned are in villages. It is perhaps fading away, but it is the traditional way communities support each other. So you have both negatives and positives in the drama.
